Community Workshop - where the fun really starts

Our workshop is free for members to use and hosts bespoke courses for community groups. Kitted out with a range of handheld and benchtop power tools, BTL’s workshop has the machinery and space to allow members the freedom to take their own projects to the next level. Our interactive courses provide informative, empowering experiences for people from all walks of life.

First, you need an induction

Even the Belfast Tool Library founders had to get their boxes ticked to be allowed access. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, every member of BTL who wants to use the workshop must go through the induction process to maintain the highest level of safety and comfort around our workshop tools and machinery.

Inductions are a one-off charge of £10 for a 3-hour session. We offer them 1-2 times monthly to maximise use of the workshop for open sessions

Have your BTL member info handy - it’s required for booking

Open Sessions

Need space to work on those bigger pieces? Or perhaps you want a bit of guidance or a new perspective on your build? Maybe you just fancy a cup of tea and a custard cream with fellow DIYers? In every case, our workshop is the solution! Dig in to your own projects; our workshop coordinator and volunteers are always happy to lend a hand when asked.

We hold open workshop sessions for all inducted members on:

  • Thursday evenings (6-9pm)

  • Saturday mornings (9.30am-12.30pm).

You can come and go as you please throughout each session. Each person brings their own materials and guides their own work.

Sessions are free; booking is required to keep an eye on capacity. We invite members to make a small donation (£3-5 per session) toward coffee/tea and workshop upkeep.
